Point 10.2 of the Italian Technical Standards for Construction (NTC) requires the reliability of the calculation codes used to be documented and assessed by the designer. This is why we make the validation documentation of our software publicly available.
The validation documents. On the page Validation of GeoStru calculation codes you will find, for each program, the validation document together with the files of the test cases. Each document develops the three points required by the standard: identification of the fields of application of the program, description of the theoretical bases, and testing through fully solved and commented benchmark cases. Tests are run on recent versions of the software: open the files with the version indicated in the document. The documentation is currently available for LOADCAP, MP, MP (Bustamante Doix), SLOPE, GEOSTRU PS, MDC, SPW, GEOROCK 2D, GEOROCK, EDIFICI IN CA, FONDAZIONI IN CA, GDW and RC-SEC.
It is meant for your report. The reasoned judgement on the reliability of the code remains the designer’s responsibility: the validation document is designed to be referenced and attached to the calculation report in support of that judgement.
Behind it, 25 years of work in the field. GeoStru has been developing software for geology and engineering for 25 years, with thousands of active licences and millions of projects carried out all over the world. A code used daily by such a wide community is tested against a variety of real cases that no laboratory test can reproduce.
Research and university collaborations. We carry out development and research together with the academic world. Two of our finite element codes – GFAS, a FEM system for geotechnical applications, and RSL III 2D, for the local seismic response of soils and structures – are developed and maintained by our in-house team, with the contribution of Prof. Cosmin G. Chiorean, full professor of Structural Engineering at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, who has been working with GeoStru since 2007. Alongside this there are a framework research agreement with CGT Engineering – Joint Laboratory for Geotechnology Applied to the Environment of the University of Siena, and the collaborations with the University of Calabria. If a result does not add up, tell us. Open a ticket attaching the project file and the details of the calculation: we analyse the case and, if a defect emerges, we correct it and release the fix. Reports from professionals are an integral part of our quality control.
